adva-cms 0.1.0 released!
Almost a year after we have started the development we are happy to announce the first release of adva-cms! This still is an experimental release and you may encounter bugs and some parts have some rough edges.
The adva-cms project originally was started by Sven Fuchs and was meant to be a rewrite of Mephisto, but in time it grew larger and became what it is today - a bleeding edge CMS platform.
The idea behind adva-cms is that you can plug in different engines, depending on your need. If you only want a blog you do not need to care about other engines than the blog engine. And if you later decide that you need a forum, well, you can just create it by using the forum engine. Unlike other Rails projects, the fresh copy of adva-cms leaves your app directory completely empty. This is meant to be an area for your own application that runs on top of adva-cms as a foundation.
This first release of adva-cms ships with:
- CMS: Allows the building of multiple sites and hierarchically organized sections.
- Comments: Allows your users to comment your site contents and sections.
- RBAC: Dynamic role based access control allows you to give access to different roles to manage your site's contents.
- Blogs: Heavily inspired by Mephisto.
- Assets: Allows you to use different types of media in your articles, with the help of buckets. Heavily inspired by Mephisto.
- Wikis: Inspired by Signal Wiki.
- Forums: Inspired by Beast.
- Newsletters: With the newsletter engine you can manage multiple newsletter and deliver issues easily to your subscribers. Contributed by: Priit Tamboom
- Calendar: Allows you to manage different kinds of events. Contributed by: Thomas R. Koll
- Private messaging: The private messaging engine allows the users of your site to send private messages to each other.
- Photo albums: With photo albums you can upload photos and assign them to different photo sets.
- Theme support: Allows you to theme your website and share themes with others.
Other notable features are:
- Supports Rails 2.2
- i18n support
- Blazing speed through frontend page-caching
The next release of adva-cms is coming soon. Things we have in mind for future releases are:
- Completing and unifying the test suite
- Redesign of section/page concept
- Enabling rbac (backend user interface)
- Enabling spam filters
- Widgets
- Safemode and safe-erb, for safer user input
- Fixing section templates
- Replacing legacy plugins
- Adding content attachments
- and much more ...
